Tweet I am now going to unfold that saga that has been my life for the past several months… Don’t be afraid, I’ll shorten it!
First of all, I want to say 2 things, one is that when I am diagnosed with something, I keep it very private until it’s over, it’s just who I am and how I believe. Secondly, I am sharing it now in the hopes of helping others who may be going through something. Having said that now you know why I haven’t shared it before and why I am now!
Back in November, before I had the surgery on my Achilles tendon, the surgeon told me to go to my primary Dr. and get the blood work done for the surgery. I did and a few days later – I got bad news! They said I had Type II Diabetes. I said No I don’t either! Of course, they didn’t really care what I said! lol So, I began my 7 stages of grief self pity or however many stages there are. I got mad, I got sad, I cried alot, I withdrew… and on and on. Then I got determined, determined to get rid of it! I wasn’t born with it, lost a husband to it, didn’t want it and wasn’t keeping it! I have had my fill of junk from that disease and wasn’t going there again!
So, I told my Dr. that I was getting rid of it, and he was on board, good! The night before I received the results, I visited a friend and she told me about the Weigh Down Workshop Book, that I have told you about before. After leaving her house, my husband and I went to dinner and the bookstore. I began to read the book over cappuccino with my husband. I was impressed with what I read. My husband bought the book for me that night! I thought how easy it was and I could do it.
The next day came the diagnosis. So, once I got determined, I began to change my eating habits. I took what I liked from the book, and made my own decisions and choices and created and modified it along the way.
The Dr. was impressed every step, as I was losing weight while still in bed from the surgery and even after I got on my feet, and we had to begin to cut the meds down! I lost over 30 lbs before I was even able to get out of bed after the surgery!
So, I am 6 months post surgery, still not exercising (hate exercise!) and I have lost almost 60 lbs so far and still losing and I went to the Dr. on Friday and he took me off the meds!!! I am ecstatic! So, that’s the story, see not too long!
Soon, I will do a post on how I lost it, what changes I made for me and why! You can do it, too, God is no respecter of persons and He definitely was there for me and got me through it. Without my faith and the knowledge that He could do this, I wouldn’t have made it!

Dian,
Good for you!!! Way to take control! I lost my mother because of what Type II Diabetes and the medications can do to the human body. Everyday I wished she had tried harder to fight the disease instead of giving in to it. Love, Love, Love that you are a fighter. Keep it up. You ARE truly an inspiration.
@Jo Ann: I am so sorry about your Mother. I really appreciate your support!
Thank you,
Dian
Congratulations! I commend you for your honesty and resolve. You rock! I think you’re awesome and a half.
I am down 45 pounds in 5 months and doing well. I get stuck once a month. You know, that week before “aunt Flow” comes to visit. Swelling, retaining water, cravings hit, everything aggrevates. Then the week of is usually just as bad. You know I am doing sort of a faith based diet also. I give everything to God and depend on my relationship with him to get me through the addiction part and then I loosely follow The belly fat cure/Jorge Cruise and The 3D diet.
Oh and I love your picture in All You. Nice! So will your modeling career get in the way of couponing now? ha ha
