Hi there! I was just wondering if you could explain or tell me where on your site I could find out how to tell exactly what your saying about the coupons… for example..what would this stand for? use $2/2 6/27 RP – Final $1.50 each buy 2

Thanks!

2 Dian July 17, 2010 at 7:19 pm

@Christine: You can always look at the Coupon Lingo in the Menu Bar at the top of the page for more explanations.

But, to answer your question: use $2/2 6/27 RP – Final $1.50 each buy 2

Use the $2 off 2 coupon found in the June 27th Sunday Coupon Insert Named Red Plum – when you use that coupon the final price of the product will be $1.50 each, but since the coupon is $2 off 2 you have to buy 2.

Does that make sense?
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks!

My WalMart has Lever 2000 2pk on sale for $1. Match it with the 25 cent coupon out of yesterday’s paper (8/1). I think it was a RP insert. Final price: 75 cents.

LA Looks hair gel is $1.94. Match it with $1 coupon in yesterday’s paper and its 94 cents. Thats 52% off.

Hello Dian,

I wanted to let you know that I tried to do this deal and similar at both Wal-Mart and Target and got shot down.

“Olay Body Wash – Travel Sized – Sale $.97 use $1.50 9/26 Proctor & Gamble – Final Price $ FREE”

The coupons were originals, but the POS would not scan them so they were rejected.

The managers I spoke too said that the POS is programmed not to accept the coupons for the travel size products. We talked about the coupon language referring to excluding “Trial Size”, but did not mention “Travel Size”. Both stores said that they consider them to be the same thing.

I noticed for the first time this week that coupons are starting to come out with the language “Excludes Trial and Travel Size”.

This may portend the demise of the “Travel Size” freebies that we all have come to enjoy.

@Steven Fitzgerald: Yes, they have recently started adding that language, sometimes they scan and sometimes they won’t right now. It’s kind of hit and miss from store to store!
Thanks for letting us know!

If companies were wise they would let us have the free trial sized or very reduced trial sized during this tough time for our country it gets the next generation hooked on the item and when times get easier folks go back to buying the larger sizes. Devotion to your item is what a sale is all about.

Dian, I am so fustrated with my Wal-Mart right now! I’ve shopped and used coupons there for at least two years now with no problems. I tried to use the $1 off Tide coupon for a travel size and the lady at the cash register called her manager. Manager, called her supervisor, and I was told I could not use a coupon that was worth more than the product. I called corporate. Today I got a call from the manager and she said she I could use the coupon this time, but afterwards, I could no longer use a coupon that was more than the product. I asked her about using the $1 off coupon on the gain dishwashing liquid, which is not a travel sized item, and she said NO. Ugggggh! Sorry, I had to vent to someone……any suggestions?

@Veronica: Find another Walmart! lol! Sorry, their policy does not state what was told to you. Normally I make sure I buy more so that the overage is covered in product. So, to use the Gain coupons for $1/1 – if the Gain were $.97, I would buy gum or candy – usually for my son – to cover the overage and then there wouldn’t be any confusion on the part of the cashier.
I have had people tell me they go thru any line they see a teenage boy working – because they don’t seem to inspect the coupons.
I personally think the manager, cashier, supervisor and the customer service agent were all wrong! People do this everyday at Walmart and it’s fine. In fact, not allowing it causes them to lose money.
If they would mark the coupon down or take the coupon at full value – they get paid for that coupon either way – so If you don’t purchase your products – because they won’t take the coupon – then they lose money! It’s that simple – so i think they were all wrong in what they told you. I think they were all just backing each other up without checking anything out.
I was serious though, I would find another Walmart – I have 5 near me – or try the “lackadaisical” cashier theory…
Wish I could help more – they just seem to make up rules all the time with no basis!
Sorry you had a hard time, I understand the frustration completely!

I did have other groceries, they just didn’t want to give in. I only have one Wal-Mart nearby, but can go to another when I make my trip into town. Thanks, I will try to look for the cashiers that usually take my coupons without question.

Sometimes if you take the Walmart coupon policy with you , then they will allow but only for the price of the item. Example $1.00 off the Gain dish liquid they will adjust down to .99 or .97 which ever happens to be the price of the dish soap on the shelf that week.

This is likely the best you can hope for.

I don’t agree with any store marking down a coupon as the store gets paid the full price of the coupon plus an additional handling free.

I tell all my friends shop at Target , Target takes all manufc. coupons and Target coupons they offer low prices and they treat customers right plus Target gives back to the community which if you know about Walmart. Walmarts do not give back to the communities they take from community (they pretend to give back but they do not) Take your dollars where they are appreciated! Go to Target !

14 Dian February 11, 2011 at 5:25 pm

@Sarah: Sarah you are exactly right about them getting paid! Do you work for Target? lol
I like them, too!
Thanks!

I do not work for Target.

I was on a PTA and got tasked at the holidays with asking both Walmart and Target to give to the needy.
Target gave us nice stuff. Walmart gave us items that were so broken and damaged they should have been labeled trash!

Walmart takes from community they get all kinds of tax breaks.

Target has a number of programs for schools, sholarships etc..
They give back to community.
Plus Target let’s you use a Target coupon and a Manufc. coupon lots of free or really cheap items.

I like stores that give back to where I live.

Target wins for me and I am not paid to say it.

I agree completely about stores adjusting down but claiming the full value. I do not know why this is legal. More coupons should probably have a write in value, specifically because stores do this.

I know I run also in this kind of scenarios with some cashierswho just don’t know their coupon policy. At one time one cashier was about to scan my coupons and said how come the coupon was higher than the item I was taking. I just mention it says in their coupon policy that the coupon may exceed the amount of value item. SHe was surprised and scan them with no problem. Just take ur coupon policy or go to other Wal-Mart

Yes they basically can make it up as they go along. Walmart does not actually have a real universal coupon policy… they have one in print, but I’ve heard from many people that once you call, corporate tells you the final say is up to the store manager, regardless of what the coupon policy says (real fair). This has come up mostly revolving around internet coupons, since so many Walmarts refuse to take the now (due to fraud). Some take them if they scan, and there is a lot of both confusion and fear among cashiers. They do get in trouble (like job loss trouble) if they take coupons they shouldn’t have.
It’s really sad.. now I prefer originals over printed coupons… I get so nervous trying to se printed ones, because so many stores in my area don’t take them anymore, and sadly I can’t blame them. Better they exclude some than all coupons.

@Seraiah: My Walmart will take them and my Kroger won’t take all of them – just some. Kroger stores definitely leave it up to the manager’s discretion, but, I have been able to “fight through” and get Walmart to do what the printed coupon policy is, you just have to remain calm, be kind , and stand your ground – at least that’s what works for me.
Thanks!

I wanted to let people know of a problem I ran into with a newly opened Walmart in Arlington, Tx (on HWY 287 and Little Rd). I presented my Internet coupons up at the reg and the cashier read them and told me that they (this particular store anyhow) was not allowed to accept coupons with a remit address in Del Rio, Tx… that they would not be reimbursed for them, that they were only allowed to accept Internet coupons with a remit address of El Paso. This is good to know!

Well, I knew this is how they deal with it, I was just hoping to get a little info.
Walmart corporate customer service is pretty useless – they take your info and pass it back to the store manager for a call back. So, I will wait for a call back – usually it happens the next day – we will see. As soon as I get the call and some kind of answer I will let you know!
Thanks!

I was told by the cashier at my local Wal-Mart that donot accept Smart Source Internet coupons?

Reply

23 Dian February 3, 2011 at 10:06 am

@Kimber: That’s a new one! Here is their official policy – as you can see it says nothing about that: WalMart Coupon Policy. I think she was mistaken.
I would talk to the manager and then to corporate if need be.
I am sorry you were told that I know how frustrating that can be!
I hope this helps!
Let me know if I can do anything!
Thanks!

The Glade PlugIn Scented Oil Lasting Impression holder it looks as if the coupon has reset itself at coupons.com. Its for $3.00 off. At my Walmart it is $4.88-$3.00 makes it $1.88 which is a heck of a price considering the orignal price is $7.98…cha-ching

My Wal-Mart has their Nice-n-Easy Gray Solution hair dye on clearance for $1 and I bought 11 and used 11 $2 off coupons and got $1 overage. (Yes, I left quite a few.) Another Wal-Mart here had their Loreal hair dye on clearance for $1 each and I bought 6 of them and used 3 $5/2 coupons and got $15 overage! ($3 per coupon) She didn’t look too happy, but she gave it to me (well, took it off my other items, that is.) Wal-Mart has had some great clearances lately. Be sure to check them out.

They also had Suave conditioner for 25 cents (tangerine) and Always pads for $2. Perfect 10 was on clearance as well, but I can’t remember the price, cheap though. Good luck!

I went to Walmart today to pick up some more Nivea for Women to donate to our local Rape and Abuse Crisis Center. While I was there, I found Always ultra thin panty liners (20-22 ct) for $0.93. I had a coupon for $1 off any One Always Pantiliner that I received with a free sample in the mail, expiring 6/30/11. This was a $0.07 MONEYMAKER. I picked up some of these for the women in need as well. Found these and thought I would pass it along if anyone has the coupon!
Happy Shopping!

No Problem!
Also, upon further investigation, I found an Always coupon in the Proctor and Gamble Everyday Savings booklet for $1 off any Always product. The coupon does not specify item or size limit. Thought I would add that for those that did not receive a sample like I did.

What days do the Walmart sales run on? (ie…Sun-Sat) I just had a horrible nite at Walmart. This was my first time couponing there. I made a list using the deals you listed and NOTHING was on sale. I was wondering if the sales had ended already. I used the current list you have up and only found one item that was on sale. I know prices vary by store but nothing was even close to being on sale. I had a bunch of items on my list too: Degree, Aquafresh, A&H Baking Soda, Mom’s Best Oatmeal, Country Crock, Magnum Ice Cream, Wish Bone, Kraft Dressing, J&J Bandages and more. I wasnt surprised that there were not peelies on Kraft or that some of the prices varied but for example the cheapest Aquafresh was $2.18 (not $0.97), cheapest Country Crock (smallest container) $1.98 (not $0.98), cheapest Mom’s Best Oatmeal was $1.78 (not $1). Everything was significantly higher. The only thing I got that was on sale was Ban deoderant ($1.97-$1Q) and the Kikkoman Soy sauce was $1.42 but when I got home I realized I was charged $1.78 so I paid 78 cents after Q. I was so frustrated b/c then I was trying to change my meals I had planned out and not spend so much. It was a disaster. I might as well not had a list at all. My budget was $50 and somehow I spent $120. I was shocked. So did I miss the sales or is the Walmart in my area just way pricier? Any suggestions for next time?

Sarah » I am sorry, you had such a bad experience. Walmart stores vary in price even across the street from each other! These prices are not necessarily sale prices – most are the everyday price. Always check the smallest size of the product for the best price. Some of the items can be found in the travel section.

I’m confused about how on the Dannon Oikos Yogurt Sale $1.00, if you use a Q for
- $.50/2 Dannon Oikos or Stoneyfield Oikos Organic Yogurt Cups, 5.3 oz (exp 09/18/11) SS 8/21
:fr: 5.3 oz Dannon Oikos Yogurt Coupon Parade Magazine issue 8/21/11

how does it end up being Free?

(I don’t know what :fr: means, so maybe that’s where I’m getting lost.)

Check out the clearance aisles in Wal-mart too. They had Dawn dishsoap on there for $.75 and with the $.50 off coupon I got 24 for only$6. They hide them all over the store (on the back endcap next to the pet section for the soap). If my kids hadn’t have needed the bathroom I would’ve never found it.

If anyone is in North TX (Grand Prairie, Duncanville, or Lewisville), Terry’s (Hispanic supermarket) has Louisiana Fish Fry on sale for $.88 each through March 20th. With the coupon $1.00/2 from 3/4, they would be $.38 each and you can price match this at Walmart.

“If coupon value exceeds the price of the item, the excess may be given to the customer as cash or applied toward the basket purchase.”
