Adventures In Being Frugal!

in Great Deals on 03/02/10

Ok, I have been called frugal (and worse) from time to time!  But, I have to admit that a couple of years ago, I went to a clothes exchange that a local church has every year!  I had never heard of one before, much less been to one.  But, I was game!

So, I set off with my daughter and we took all the clothes we were willing to trade and went to the church.  I must have been a little excited, Because I accidentally hit the children’s Pastors car while parking!  oops!

When we arrived there were about 30 women in a very small room having lunch.  We dropped off our clothes and they were taken to a room that was set up like a store.  They had us draw numbers and let us enter the room a few people at a time until we were all in there “shopping”.

The ones who go to go in first had the longest time to grab what they wanted to try on and as the next groups began to enter they had less time to grab what they wanted.  Then they said we all had to try on what we wanted to try and put back what we didn’t want and then there was another timed period to go through what was put back.  Eventually everyone got what they wanted and the rest went to a local shelter.

All in all this was a fun afternoon and I got a few things I liked.  I was glad I don’t go to that church because I can wear any of those clothes and no one knows whose they were before they were mine!  Overall, I think the idea is really great, some might not think so, but, they were nice clothes, new to me and best of all FREE!!

I recently came up with an idea to have a freesale at our church and have some type of large box or container to take donations. Any money we raise can go towards our youth group and food pantry. We have been cleaning out our home of stuff we don’t use anymore that still has alot of life left and we have a gazillion children’s books too. Any left overs can be taken to goodwill or one of the local clothes closets.
