Fast And Easy Pinkeye Home Remedy!
As I have mentioned before I have 4 grown kids (well, Bear is 16 – almost grown, huh?). In the years I was raising my kids we had Pinkeye pop up a few times, and I accidentally stumbled upon a home remedy for Pinkeye. The very first time it popped up was with my daughter when she was just a toddler and we were on a 6 hour car trip. It started right after we left and by the time we reached our destination it was gone.
Pinkeye or Conjunctivitis is apparent when your child wakes up with “sleep” in their eyes crusting their eye shut, or their eye begins to produce more “sleep” and crust during the day. It can start with redness, puffiness, and itching, but eventually they eye will begin to produce excessive “sleep” and crust.
Here’s where I want to encourage you to rely on your own judgment, some things are built in as a Mom and if you give yourself enough credit, you’ll come through just fine!
You see when my daughter first had it, I had never heard of Pinkeye, let alone knew how to cure it. I had a washcloth in the car with me and all I knew to do was to continue to apply the cold wet washcloth every hour or so for 5-10 minutes and as I said when we arrived 6 hours later, it was gone.
I have been told since then that it is normally caused when kids wipe their noses with their hands up across their faces into their eyes.
Now, that is not the BEST way, I have found, to cure Pinkeye. What I did as the years went on with all of my kids was a little more thought out. None of my kids had Pinkeye for an entire day, this method knocked it out in a few hours. Here is what worked on all of my kids:
At the first sign of Pinkeye, I would begin warm compresses to the affected eye for 10 minutes every hour. Make sure to wash your hands, keep their hands out of their eyes, don’t let them touch siblings :), use a NEW clean washcloth EACH TIME, immediately wash (or quarantine until it can be washed) the used washcloth because Pinkeye is HIGHLY contagious.
Now, Bear (the last one) had it VERY young, and my Midwife told me to put a drop of breast milk in his eye every few hours. I did and it was gone quickly, as well – who knew?! lol
So, the next time one of your kids has Pinkeye you might want to try this.
