Homemade Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments!

Homemade Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments!Homemade Ornaments

My friend Renae at How To Have It All, has graciously agreed to share her crafting and recipe knowledge with us!  Mostly because I have NO crafting or recipes ability and felt bad that I had nothing to share with y’all AND because I LOVE her stuff!

She comes up with the best recipes and crafty things!

In this first one she COMBINES them!

If you are looking for a ornament craft to do with your children, applesauce cinnamon ornaments are fun and easy to make. They also make great gifts to give or a cute present topper. Plus these ornaments smell so good! Buy the applesauce and cinnamon at a discount store like Dollar Tree to make this project really inexpensive.

Supplies:

2 Cups Applesauce
2 Cups Ground Cinnamon
Waxed Paper
Rolling Pin
Cookie Cutters
Drinking Straw
Ribbon

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl mix the applesauce and cinnamon. You want the dough to be thick- kind of like playdough. Once the applesauce and cinnamon were incorporated, I found it easiest to use my hands to finish the mixing. Form dough into a ball.

Homemade Ornaments

Place the ball of dough onto a piece of waxed paper. Place another piece of waxed paper on top and use a rolling pin to roll out the dough. You want the dough to at least be 1/4″ thick. If the dough is too thin the ornament will be too delicate when dried.

Homemade Ornaments

Once the dough is rolled out, use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. If you plan on hanging the ornaments with ribbon use a drinking straw to make a hole. Place the cut outs on a cookie sheet. Let them dry in sunny spot for about 3 days- flipping them over every day. If you are in a hurry, you can bake them in the oven at 200 degrees for 3 hours or so.

To add a little extra decor, use a glue gun to adhere buttons, sequins, or decorative items to the ornament. A brightly colored ribbon is also fun!

I remember Mama making these with her four year olds at school then bringing home the extras to hang on our Christmas tree. They always smelled so wonderful! Great idea 🙂
