|Many of you said when I wrote about my weight loss and my secret revealed that you were interested in HOW I lost the weight. There is alot of info I want to share on how, why, and what, so I will be doing this in a series of posts, so as not to overload you with info!|
Here is the second in the series. I want to talk about what I learned from Dr. Oz and how I tweaked it for me.
I first saw him when I was flipping thru the channels one night and saw Joy Behar interviewing him and I LOVED what I was hearing, so I began to tape his shows and watch them! So, much great info!
So, here are a few things he had to say about weight loss:
He said that it isn’t so much your weight that matters as it is your wait size. He said (and my Dr. said the same thing), you have seen people who are large on the bottom and top, but have small waists, they may be heavy, but they are healthy because of their waist size. He said your waist should be no more than 1/2 your height in inches. So, if you are 5’5”, that would make you 65” tall, so your waist should be no larger than 32.5”.
He also talked about our sense of smell being misleading. I can attest to this for sure! He said that we smell things and think they smell good and all of the sudden we decide we are hungry – yet – if we take the time to stop and think about it…we aren’t…we just like the way it smells.
When I first had my surgery, my daughter and husband and children were here, my son-in-law is an excellent cook! He really enjoys it and does a great job! My daughter is a great cook, too! But, would be cooking downstairs in the kitchen while I was recovering upstairs (right above the kitchen) and I remember thinking “Oh, I am sooo hungry”, when I would smell it! But, after hearing Dr. Oz on that subject, I stopped one time and thought about it and I wasn’t hungry at all! I just thought I was because it smelled so good! How easily we can be fooled!
Dr. Oz went on to say that it takes 2 weeks to make a new habit, you can teach the brain anything new in 2 weeks, he said guitar, piano, a new way to eat and be healthy, anything, just 2 weeks! I found that awesome, only 14 days!
Dr. Oz said the entire obesity epidemic is about eating or drinking 100 calories a day too many! That’s all just 100 calories! That’s like 1 soda a day. To lose weight shave off 100 calories a day.
I was shocked to learn I was obese! I thought for sure I would have to be like 500 lbs or more…nope! I was incredibly shocked when I read that I was obese!! That word just makes you think HUGE and it’s not that huge – or maybe I was! lol
He said belly fat is called Omentum and it squeezes your kidneys and that causes high blood pressure, it poisons your liver and causes high cholesterol, it also blocks insulin causing diabetes. All of that is caused by belly fat!
Some other pearls from Dr. Oz:
- Detox the fridge, remove all saturated fats.
Saturated fats are solid in the fridge and more liquid at room temp than unsaturated.
- Remove all white food
White bread, white sugar, white flour, pasta.
- He said high fructose corn syrup is poison to the liver.
Jason’s Deli removed all high fructose corn syrup from the menu with the exception of the drinks, and I told you that Hunt’s Ketchup is now High Fructose Corn Syrup Free.
- Coffee is the #1 source of antioxidants in America – it is a real food.
I was so excited I got to tell my husband that, he is always wanting me to quit drinking coffee. I do use sugar in my coffee, but Dr. Oz said agave nectar is sweeter than sugar and it’s all natural, so I just bought it and it really is good, I can never find ANYTHING good in my coffee to substitute for sugar, but this is good! I can use substitute’s in tea, but not coffee, until now!
Dr. Oz has a book and all of this is supposed to be in it, plus more of course, the book is called: The Owner’s Manual For Waist Management.
Next time I’ll be talking about what I have learned on my own through this journey about myself.
This is my interpretation of what I heard Dr. Oz say, this is not meant to be an exact quote, word for word of what he said, but, of what I heard and wrote down. This is not meant to replace the advice of your Dr. I was under the care of my Dr. all the way through and he was in agreement with what I was/am doing. This is not meant to be advice on your weight loss from me, just a re-telling of how I lost my weight.
Read all about my journey and how I lost over 100 lbs.

I have decided to do a series on fun, frugal and meaningful gift ideas. For me it seems this time of year is filled with more gift giving occasions than any other, short of Christmas! There are tons of birthday parties of course, and Graduations, Going Away To College, Weddings, Baby Showers, and more! So, what better time to discuss some great gifts you can give?
I will have to begin by saying almost all of these ideas are shamelessly stolen straight from my Mother! She is the ultimate gift giver and card sender!
I remember as a kid and teen, going to the mall and thinking: “Oh no, please let us walk past the card store…nope, here we go, right into the card store!” She was not going in to buy a card for a particular occasion per say, but, to “look” at the cards. Which really meant reading almost EVERY card in the ENTIRE STORE! She had to pick the perfect card, even if it was going to be stored until an occasion that fit that card was upon her! Anyway, I digress…
Since there are many summer weddings, let’s start there. This particular gift was one I loved so much, she even gave it to me for my wedding. I looked forward to the day I got married and received one.
She would hand pick a goblet, not one from the Bride’s registry, just one she felt was unique and could stand alone.
It could be as unadorned or as elaborate as you like. She would wrap it in tissue paper, in a box alone and enclose a card that read:
When harsh words have been spoken
And things seem to have gotten out of control
Take this goblet and fill it up
Present it as a forgiveness request
If your your mate drinks from the cup
Then you both will know
All has been forgiven
This is such a great gift, like I said my Mother is a great gift-giver. I placed mine in a curio cabinet with the card standing in front of it.
You can find a great single goblet for not much money almost anywhere. I have seen great ones at T.J. Maxx and even a second hand store or garage sale! Just look around and be creative. Remember, it’s the thought behind the gift that counts! This is what I call a great fun, frugal, meaningful gift! Thanks Mom!
So, I will be doing a few of these fun, frugal and meaningful gift ideas over the coming days. Time for you to share your fun, frugal, and meaningful wedding gift ideas with us!
